Hey there! Freakin’ rad news! For the first time evers Ajax, one of the most rockin’ electro mother fuckin’ DJs from Melbourne, will soon be playing some sweet, groovy and stonkin’ beats at Base in Christchurch (with many thanks to Samuel from YMC and Paul from Epaulette.tv). This is a big deal. I saw him play at Parklife 2007 while living in Melbourne and he played one of my favourite sets that day, up there with Digitalism and Justice. His DJ sets are a continual jam of electro bangers, indie-rock cock-flogs, and sexy arse sound assassinations. To hear what this guys all about tune into www.StarlifterRadio.com where his “dance til dawn – directors cut” DJ mix is on HIGH rotate. There is also a rumor that he’s gonna be making a cameo on RDU.org.nz. Ajax hangs out with the Bang Gang crew, is good friends with the cats at Modular Records and also runs a label called “Sweat It out” which has one of my other Aussie faves, Gameboy/Gamegirl, signed to it. Fucking yeah!

On April 24, 2009, in music, by SLTV

Markj “trollied”

This is the latest mix from DJ Markj. His sets include elements of Techno , Prog, Electro, Tech, and Deep House. Markj is a Taranaki born Kiwi who has been based in Melbourne for the past few years but is about to move to Vancouver Canada. He is definitely THE man to keep an ear out for!

Melbourne group ‘Mother and Father’ [who performed at Camp A Low Hum 09] are staying cutting edge by doing things the old way; their impossibly simple website oozes with self proclamation and loaded rhetoric, something no one has really mastered since axel dated models, their albums come in super limited, hand crafted, 100 unit runs, and their music is a beautifully filthy, antipodean-Seattle throwback. Their latest single, ‘Ignored,’ is a rollicking tip of the hat to the mightiest warlords 90s grunge. Characteristically rough, darkly melodic and clocking in at a mere 2:04 minutes, this tune is a double happy, bursting from the blocks in a blur of feedback and effective simplicity. Expect to see a lot of others follow the lead of these chaps, as they stand of the shoulders of the past, and look to the future.
